Now to really piss you off
Let’s talk about squat depth. This is the most debated bullshit in the sport. Every time there is a big lift, someone with a 300lbs squat is going to rip the shit apart online. That goes for raw or geared. Let’s be real, it’s stupid!
The thing that really gets me riled up is the constant complaining, yet you’ll never even see half these ball bags at a meet. I was at a meet once and seen some shit lifts get passed. I didn’t bitch, I became a judge, and tried my best not to pass bogus shit. You sit in the chair long enough; you’ll miss a call. I’m saying that I’d rather give a gift than take a good lift away. No way I am robbing someone out of a lift they’ve earned. That’s just some bullshit.
Now let’s get to the root of this. You don’t get extra points for going to deep. If you’re lifting at a meet and the judges are calling shit loose, you’re a moron for not playing to the standard that day! You don’t see pitchers in the MLB throwing right over the plate if the ump is a little lenient with the corners, do you? Fuck no you don’t! I know this isn’t the “pros” and we aren’t getting paid, so more reason to take advantage of what’s being given that day.
What if it’s the other way around, you say? Well, I try and train to depth that should pass anywhere and open reasonable, so if I need a little extra, I’m good. I have had a lot of injuries, so If they’re asking for deeper than I can safely squat, it’ll be three strikes and my ass is out! I’ve bombed a shit ton of meets due to depth. I made some adjustments after becoming a judge and I haven’t bombed because of depth since.
All you jackasses that sit around and judge lifts online, you need a life and a new hobby. Seriously, why do you give a shit if Dave Hoff or Blaine Summer got a questionable lift passed? Even if they went a little deeper and squatted less, 99% of you wouldn’t out squat or total them anyhow. Most of you can’t even come close. And, yes, I’ve passed lifts that looked great with my eyes and then seen it on video and the opposite is true. If you want to be a serious lifter, get off your damn soapbox, and get in the gym and add some pounds to your total. You think the top guys sit around picking shit apart online? If you want to help the sport, sit in the judges chair, don’t be a nobody online bashing others over squat depth.
When you’re a lifter you have one job on meet day and that’s to lift the most weight you can. You’re not there to judge yourself. You’re there for prs and if you’re in contention to win. We’re Americans, we love to win! I don’t know when that changed for the masses, but fuck losing!!! I’d push my momma down to beat her in a race, so you bet your ass if the judges are giving an inch or two, my ass is going to take them!
